Abbott was founded by Dr. Wallace C. Abbott, a practicing physician that owned a drug store and created a new approach to extracting the active part of medicinal plants. Abbott opened an affiliate in London in 1907 and later opened one in Montreal, Canada. Abbott India was established in 1944 and remains an important subsidiary and the country’s largest healthcare products company.
